Herbal medicine

Herbs can be prescribed in their raw form, decocted into teas, extracted to make tinctures, or pills

Herbs are used alone or in conjunction with other therapies to promote health. Using traditional remedies combined with recent clinical advances in plant-based medicine, we can craft an individualized plan to create better health.

Traditional Chinese Herbal medicine is based on thousands of years of observation and case studies. Herbs are not prescribed to eliminate symptoms but are given based on a collection of symptoms that create a pattern. By using the pattern diagnosis, the root of the issue is addressed and symptoms are eliminated. Herbal formulas may be changed from time to time to address changing symptoms but the goal is to take them for a temporary amount of time in order to resolve the root issue instead of continuing to mask symptoms Indefinitely.

Herbal prescriptions are mostly plant based but some minerals and rarely animal products are used. The herbs are combined in ways that emphasize certain qualities and harmonize others in order to create a medicine that is personalized and balanced to address all your complaints without side effects. We only use herbal products that have been harvested with sustainable practices and that test for heavy metals, pesticide residuals, and microbial contamination.

There are several methods of consuming herbs available in our clinic in Jackson.

  • Herbs can be prepared in your home by brewing the raw herbs into a decoction or tea
  • Formulas (mix of herbs) can be made into a tincture that is consumed with warm water
  • Granules of the processed herbs can be mixed with warm water and taken as a tea
  • Capsules of packed granules can be taken in pill form

Cost of herbs is not included in the treatment or consultation. Generally herb costs for 2 weeks range from $15 to $60 depending on the method of consumption and formula.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at Robin@cohealingarts.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Most of our herbs are sourced from China but whenever possible we will use locally sourced herbs. We only buy herbs from companies that test and vet their suppliers to ensure quality of herbs and that sustainable practices are used. Every herb is tested for heavy metals, pesticide residues, and microbial contamination. We do not use animal derivatives from animals that are endangered or threatened. We do not support abusive or illegal practices and do not sell or buy items that result from such actions, such as bear bile, pangolin, or tiger parts.

Absolutely! We want you to feel good about the medicine you are ingesting and we want to avoid irritating your system. Please let us know if you have any allergies or ethical opposition to certain plants or foods, (such as wheat, tree nuts or seeds), animal derivatives, or shellfish derivatives.

Forty percent of pharmaceuticals sold today are derived from plants that have been used as natural remedies for thousands of years. Pharmaceuticals extract the active ingredients of a plant to make a drug more potent. An example of this is aspirin. Aspirin is derived from willow bark, the active ingredient is acetylsalicylic acid. This potency can sometimes have unintended side effects such as gastrointestinal discomfort, whereas chewing on willow bark does not appear to cause any side effects. Herbal medicine is focused on resolving the root issue in order to make symptoms disappear, whereas, most pharmaceuticals are made to simply address the branch or mask the symptom. Herbal medicinals tend to be more subtle than pharmaceuticals, have less side effects, and are not addictive.
